Wild pigs are common and widespread in Hong Kong, especially in the countryside areas. Some wild pigs intrude into villages and urban areas in search of food, causing disturbance and damage to crops and personal properties. In general, wild pigs are secretive and wary of human contact. However, if provoked or threatened they may become aggressive and may attack humans.
To detect the presence of wild pigs, cameras have been installed in some blackspots to capture the images and videos which is being collected by staff periodically for manual inspection. It was time-consuming and inefficient to identify wild pigs that were causing nuisance in the area by such means.
